Underground
After folowing a photo thread to which people uploaded photographs of the underground in their city (here), I picked up the courage to try and take some photos on/of the Nagoya subway.
I usually hold back from taking photos of people in such public (yet private) spaces. It feels like an intrusion. Yesterday was liberating. There is a fine balance between intruding on and photographing a scene. In such a space conscious place, it is easy to tip that balance.

Pink girl
In his memoirs of WWII "Slightly out of focus", legendary war photographer Robert Capa (made-up name) used 'Pinky' as a pseudonym for his then girlfriend Elaine Justin. He often refered to her as the pink girl or pinky because of the colour of her hair (really strawberry blonde I think).

New post, old snaps
Two photographs from last year of the Nagoya twin towers which incorporates Nagoya station, and the Shinkansen (Bullet train) track. Have been taking only film recently, trying to prepare a submission for this years "視点" (shi-ten) exhibition, so no daily snaps recently. I haven't been able to get the same quality in digital as I do using colour reversal film, perhaps due to the camera I am using (Nikon D70) or more likely my technique. I also enjoy taking film and have more confidence in the picture quality for larger prints.

What do you see?
While reading J.S Hibbert's blog, I followed a link to a photo page by Manabu Yamanaka. When I saw the fourth picture down I realised that this was the same photographer that is featured in a book on Japanese photographers that I picked up at a boot sale in Kanayama about 5 years ago.

This is Yoichiro Ando. He is a designer / artist in Nagoya, and this weekend he and another local artist are 'performing ' in the rental club and gallery space 'Plastic Factory' in Imaike Nagoya.
Ando San is, when not designing for commercial projects such as the anniversary poster for 'Loft' department store, a performance painter.
